Gobble, Gobble

Wee Picasso painted this fantastic Turkey as a donation to our local food bank. My office raised funds to buy 320 Turkey dinners and she went along to help present this on air. I usually avoid pic's of Wee Picasso on the page - but could not resist this one. I did cover her name which is signed on the bottom corner by her age. My coworker painted the green background in advance (we only had one hour to paint this) and left a space for her turkey. I had a picture of what I had wanted her to create. I explained the meaning of a commission piece of art. She finished the Turkey then told me she wanted to paint pink hearts all over it. I suggested a compromise and she painted her hearts and swirls in light green. When interviewed she told them she wanted the people who had no money or food to smile when they saw the funny turkey.

Sad Friend

I found this picture in Wee Picasso's backpack and I was a little concerned. (although quite impressed with the change in how she is drawing faces!). It was part of an exercise in regards to bullies. They had to draw their friend sad - as if they had bullied them. Then they had to crumble it up.

Beaded Bands

When my husband brought home this new book (Beaded Bands by Klutz) from the school book fair. I was actually dreading making the bracelets. I thought it was too advanced for Wee Picasso, and for myself! So we waited until the little man went to nap and started making beaded bracelets. I was shocked as how well she took to it. I started the process, and would end the bracelet. On the twisty design I did the knots for her. Here are some pictures of the process.

Remembrance Day - 2012

I have been into Wee Picasso’s grade one class twice now to teach art. It has been a great time to meet the students and to offer some creative lessons to those who may not have a chance at home. This past month we worked on drawing the symbols of Remembrance day. We drew poppies and maple leafs. Then the class went on to make their posters for the Annual Royal Canadian Legion contest.
I recently found out the Wee Picasso’s poster placed locally. In fact 3 of the 4 winners were all grade one students. Their category was K-3. The kids were very pleased to be recognized, tomorrow they will attend the local Remembrance Day service and after see their posters along with the others. I was very impressed with the work of her class. Some of the kids even stayed in over recess to finish up their posters. Looking forward to next month’s lesson!

Learn to Draw - Princess

Here is Wee Picasso's latest drawing from her new book - Learn to draw Funky things

I think there will be a lot of new dragon and princess drawing soon. We also picked up a big Hilroy sketch book for these new drawings.

I highly recommend these books. We also have this one: Learn to draw 8 in 1

My Mom

A sketch by my Wee Picasso age 6. I had to sit very still for 10-15 minutes while she drew me. (I was sick with a cold and had no make-up on...I usually look a bit better) Trying to teach her to draw what she sees - and not how she thinks. She noticed my head was not a circle, my eyes are not circles...and I have wrinkles (she erased those under my watchful eye)

Turning Drawings by Children with Health Conditions Into Epically Magical Photographs

Read/See More Here

Shawn Van Daele of Renaissance Studios has just begun The Drawing Hope Project where he takes 20 drawings created by young children born or living with health conditions and turns them into epically magical photographs. This real-life storybook is meant to inspire others, giving them hope that anything is possible.

Each photo shoot takes between one or two hours but post production can take up to eight.

When asked what he's learned throughout the process, Shawn told us this, "I've learned that we (as adults) have so much we can learn from children (with health conditions or not). They take life as it comes, one day at a time. These kids face what's handed to them with grace and strength, and they've learned that from their families, who are equally strong and courageous. It's so easy to take life for granted, as cliche as it sounds - there is always something bigger than yourself or your problems that can put it all into perspective for you. This project does that for me, and has done so already for many people. I've also learned where my heart is - this project is the most rewarding thing I've ever done; using the talents you've been given to put 'good' out into the world while doing something you love...it doesn't get any better than that."

There a few more spots left in The Drawing Hope Project storybook Volume 1 and Shawn is already planning Volume 2.

What a wonderfully inspiring project!Read/See More Here
